Compatibility of Workshop 8.1 with Workshop 7.0

In this section, we talk about how the release of Workshop with BEA WebLogic Platform 7.0 differs from the 8.1 release.

Web Services

Web Services developed in Workshop 7.0 and deployed on WebLogic Server 7.0 are interoperable with Web Services deployed on WebLogic Server 8.1. Web Services built in Workshop 7.0 can be imported into Workshop 8.1. However, BEA has made considerable enhancements to the 8.1 runtime and thus Web Services built in Workshop 8.1 are not backward compatible on WebLogic Server 7.0. Applications built in Workshop 8.1 are only deployable on WebLogic Server 8.1 because they enable you to leverage core Web Services support features in WebLogic Server 8.1.

Other Components

Workshop 7.0 primarily focused on Web Services. It did not have an extensible controls API, the concept of page flows, or Worklist. These features are clearly new to 8.1 and thus not backward compatible with the 7.0 release of the BEA WebLogic Platform.

NOTE

For a complete guide on how to upgrade existing Workshop applications to Workshop 8.1, please see the “Upgrading Existing Applications” section in the Workshop help at http://e-docs.bea.com/workshop/docs81/doc/en/core/index.html.
