Updating WebLogic 8 License

Before attempting to update your current BEA license file, change the name of your newly received license.bea file to avoid overwriting the current license file. Back up your old license and save the new license in your BEA home directory. If there's no current license.bea file in the BEA home directory, place the new license in the BEA home directory. Remember, in any case, always back up both the old and new licenses.

To update your current license file with the newly received WebLogic 8 series license, you must run the UpdateLicense script. The WebLogic 8 series installation provides a command script for Windows and a shell script for Unix. This script is found directly under your BEA home directory.

To run the script, verify that JDK1.4.1_02 or higher is in your PATH variable. Navigate to your BEA home directory and execute the command script, passing the new license file as a parameter, as shown in the following examples.

Windows

UpdateLicense.cmd newlicenseFileName.bea

Unix

UpdateLicense.sh newlicenseFileName.bea

In reference to the Unix shell script: Ensure that you have execute rights to the script. If you currently have a WebLogic 7.0 license, the license will be updated for WebLogic 8 use during install—all licenses will be merged into one document.
